Wipro BPO to Train Potential Employees

Sometime back I had written about hiring activities in Wipro BPO. From the looks of things, the recruitment drive is still on and Wipro is getting up close and personal with the process. Faced with the fact that graduates coming out of the various colleges typically lack employability skills and the colleges do little to improve the situation, Wipro signed a MoU with the Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) to take the responsibility of training emerging graduates. Under the scheme, students who are passing out of regular degree colleges and who possess decent communication skills, will be trained by Wipro and subsequently absorbed.

Apart from requirements for its BPO, Wipro also needs people for various other positions such as technical support executives, human resources, accounting, supply chain and others. In order to make the most of the MoU, officials from Wipro will visit different colleges and identify students who would be suitable for these positions. The identification will be followed by a training programme where the potential employees will be trained to handle the various responsibilities and will be made to experience what working in Wipro is all about.

The company has announced two recruitment drives already for the PB Siddhartha College of Arts & Science. One in September and the second in November.

Hiring Activities In India Continue To Rise

The job market seems to be recovering from recession blues as a survey revealed a rise in hiring activities. According to the survey conducted by naukri.com, hiring increased by 1.3% in July compared to what it was in June. The IT and IteS sectors, retail and real estate displayed a spurt and are leading the pack with other industries such as banking, pharma and biotech picking up pace.

The trend shows an increasing demand for experienced professionals as the industry looks to use their expertise and insight to soar again. Professionals with more than 8 years of experience are highly sought after and recruitment of such professionals are showing maximum growth. Among the Indian cities, Hyderabad, Delhi/NCR and Mumbai saw improvement in hiring whereas Chennai, Bangalore and Pune experienced a slight dip.

This report portrays ongoing progress as recruitment activities had increased by 8.1% in June over its preceding month. To read more about the report and for statistics of individual cities, hit this link.

Industry and Academia Link Up.

Besides providing training and organizing coaching centres, companies are tying up with colleges and institutions to make sure that essential employability skills are cultivated during the college years. This makes sure that students get a clear idea of the job profile and learn the differences between academic curriculum and actual responsibilities once they become a part of the industry. An attempt is made to seal the gaps between theory and practice so that the transition between academics and work becomes that much smoother. I can see more such partnerships coming as companies will look at it as an effective way of reducing recruitment and training costs as well.

An example of this linkage is the recent alliance between Krishna University and Efftronics Systems. An M.Sc course in electronics and instrumentation will be offered jointly by the university and the company. Lecturers from the university will be taking classes in the company premises and students will get the advantage of a hands-on experience.

An Overview of the Recruitment Test

If you are getting ready to see yourself in the roster of a top company in the industry, you will do well to know more about the recruitment tests that you will have to take. The assessment procedure varies from company to company but you can be sure of being put through a written test and one or more rounds of interviews. While the written test will test your writing ability, the interview allows your recruiters to get to know you better and assess your communication skills to an extent. Some companies might also put you through a group discussion to see whether you can think quickly and offer solutions to problems.

For the written test, keep in mind the profile you have applied to. If it is technical writing, make sure you keep simplicity and visual appeal in mind. If it is content writing, make your article clear and concise. Avoid being verbose and be original. As i have shared earlier, long posts can put people off so do not get carried away while writing and keep word limits in mind. Your recruiters may specify a limit. Split your article into two or more paragraphs so that the reader is not faced with a huge wall of text.

The test may also contain an analytical section where you might have to solve some mathematical problems. Though this part of the test will not be looked at with as much importance as the writing section, you need to take it seriously. Your 10th standard mathematical knowledge should be enough in most cases. This section might also contain some puzzles or tricky questions that will test your intelligence and presence of mind. So think before you answer.

Banks Jobs Calling

For everyone out there who are under the impression that global recession will hamper recruitment in Indian banks, here is a piece of good news. Pushing apprehensions of slowdown aside, banks are on a major recruitment drive these days. Two major reasons behind this overdrive being the retirement of a large number of senior employees and banks looking to provide more and more specialized services such as insurance, net banking, asset management and so on. In order to bring new services to their customers, they need to train people with specific skills who will be entrusted with these services.

It is estimated that about 20% of a strong workforce of 750,000 will retire within the next two years. This opens up a huge gap which needs filling. In addition to all this, banks are also expanding so that they can reach out to more people all over India. State Bank of India opened 2000 new branches in 2008-09 and are expected to open 1000 more this year. Openings exist for clerks, general banking officers and specialist officers. Recruitment is happening by the thousands according to this report in rediff.com and all major names such as Canara Bank, SBI, Bank of India,Union Bank of India are involved. So for all of you who have your sights set on a rewarding career in public sector banking, the requirement presents a golden opportunity.
